To understand sustainable tourism development and contemporary tourism issues from a global community perspective.
Each tourist destination, as well as Thailand, has a goal of creating sustainable tourism development and address contemporary tourism issues within our global community.  A global community defined as "the people or nations of the world, considered as being closely connected by modern telecommunications and as being economically, socially, and politically interdependent." (thefreedictionary.com)
An idea that could help create a stronger global community from Thailand is education.  Educating the local people and the public on the wave patterns and warning signs of a potential tsunami could help the ease the potential tourist as well.  As said in my infographic, Tilly Smith, a 10 year old girl, was able to save over 100 having been taught the wave patterns of a tsunami just weeks before visiting Thailand.

Each student will demonstrate the effective use of technology to improve their writing and speaking. Students will need to demonstrate how they have utilized the online resources to improve their writing skills, incorporate photographs from the Internet, information from electronic journals, and online experts to improve and broaden their perspectives as indicated by the quality of their written and oral communication, and multi-media presentations.

During the international tourism course I was able to gain knowledge on how to effectively use online recourses and navigate the internet for photographs, blogs, and social media.  The written word has never been a strength of mine.  I have struggled from day one to understand the nuances of effective and correct writing and grammar.  This course helped me to also understand visual cues, such as photographs, can say much more than the written word.
I was able to use the quizzes provided on canvas, to understand what areas I could improve on.  They have helped me to gain a greater knowledge on how to use punctuation, especially commas, effectively in my writing.
The blog posts helped me to know that not all writing needs to be long drawn out explanations.  Much of the writing done today is concise and to the point.  Creating a blog with multiple posts has helped to have my thoughts organized so my posts can display my thoughts without too many words.

Thailand is a beautiful area that has recovered from the tsunami that destroyed some of their most visited areas.  Even though funding for repair of the damaged area came from many organizations, we must continue to sustain these breathtaking areas.  Tourism is one of the biggest industries that Thailand relies on, to bring money into the country, especially in the Tsunami areas.
According to ukessays.com "The 6 provinces affected most by the tsunami are able to generate as much as 100,000 million baht of tourism income or as much as 17.4 per cent of the total tourist income of Thailand."  Much of this revenue comes from the major hotels and resorts in the area and not from the local businesses. This may be due to large companies having money to repair their own buildings and local companies having to wait for relief money.
Although it has been over 8 years since the tsunami hit the coasts of Thailand local business in those areas still rely on tourists for their income.  Local businesses such as Paddle Asia are what we need to invest our money in when visiting Thailand.  I urge you to use ecotourism to sustain the local businesses in the area you decide to visit.  Through out my blog, there are posts of how to help support the local economy.  Do your research before you visit places and help your friends and family due the same.  If you do this local businesses can thrive, and you will be able to help them be able to offer other people the same experience that you can have.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration (NOAA) has been able to create relief in areas affected by the 2004 Tsunami, like Phuket.  They have been able to collaborate there efforts with the community in installing the dart II system, which is a Tsunami warning system.  The ocean and beaches are a big part of business for the people in Thailand.  Keeping locals and tourists safe is a main focus of the communities near the ocean.  The NOAA has been able to provide security to the at risk communities with the dart II system.
The installation of the dart II system has made it possible for the sites and sounds of the danger areas to come alive again.  Fishing, tourism and the communities are again alive and well, and some of this can be contributed to the security and protection provided by the NOAA.
This security and protection provided by the NOAA along with the at risk Tsunami areas can trickle down to the potential traveler.  The tourist that comes to Thailand can expect to have an authentic experience that is worry free from the potential natural disaster that could occur.
The NOAA has provided protection now and for the future in Thailand.  It helps fisherman know when not to go out fishing, and tells the locals and tourists when to get to higher ground.  This protection also allows for the culture and history of Thailand can be better preserved by giving all generations a chance for survival if another Tsunami were to occur.
Information about the dart can be found at http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/dart/dart.shtml.

Rainforests of the Atsinanana is located in Madagascar.  It is a beautiful forest that inhabits a wide variety of animals unique to the area.  It is comprised of six different parks all of which are important in the islands biological and ecological processes.
The rainforest is being continually poached.  Logging is a major concern for UNESCO and Madagascar.  They are struggling to preserve and protect the resources of the forest.

Another concern is that they are not able to collaborate their efforts in preserving the rainforest with everyone.  Even with great efforts illegal logging is still taking place.  Also there is deforestation by slash and burn agriculture.  This is due to the main supporters being outside the region.
Much is being done to stop the deforestation taking place in the Rainforests of the Atsinanana.  One way they are limiting illegal logging is by seizing all illegal timber.  Then after seizing the illegal timber selling it and asking for clarification of want to do with the funds created from the timber.  They are also increasing patrol efforts to stop the illegal logging and secure the illegal timber.

Paddle Asia provides a unique experience into the natural beauty's only Thailand has to offer.  They hope to provide an intimate experience with the environment while preserving its natural form. Their main goal is; "the preservation of the environment takes priority over business profits."
They provide ways of transportation that enhance your appreciation for the environment instead of destroying it, such as paddle boats.  Instead of focusing on receiving awards from organizations that have no affiliation with preserving the environment, they focus on reducing their impact on the environment.

Thailand is a masterfully beautiful place.  Ko Phi Phi Don island was devestated by the 2004 Tsunami.   With the advancements in Thailand's new disaster alert system no one person should be afraid to visit the beauty in Thailand.  Ko Phi Phi Don is a great example of how a place that has experienced a devastating disaster can be restored to the beauty that it once was.  The restoration took a few years to be completed with help from the government and other organizations.  This beautiful island is just one of many beautiful places to visit in Thailand despite the danger of another Tsunami.
